Moody Jewel Tones & Creating a Winter Sanctuary
Oct 31, 2026

As we cross the threshold into Halloween and Samhain, the arrival of the darker half of the year feels official. For us, this season isn’t about artificial frights, it’s about answering that deep, natural urge to pull inward, slow down, and turn our homes into a true autumnal sanctuary.
While we will always love an explosion of bright colour, the long, quiet evenings have us craving a moodier palette. We’re taking our inspiration directly from nature, specifically from the vivid, jewel-toned plumage of the kingfisher featured across many of our designs.

Instead of stark neutrals, moody winter decorating is all about warmth and depth. Think:
Deep teal & royal blue: Inspired by the kingfisher’s wing feathers, these shades bring immediate calm and grounded drama to a room.
Warm ochre & burnt amber: Balancing the cool blues with rich, glowing hues that mimic autumn leaves and firelight.
Plum & charcoal: Adding dark, velvety deep notes that make bright accents pop.

Creating a moody sanctuary comes down to texture and light.
Focus on tactile fabrics: Heavy velvets, intricate embroideries, and woven patterns hold heat visually and physically.
Warm lighting only: Swap high overheads for warm-toned candles, sculptural lamps, and soft shadows that celebrate the longer nights.
Bring the outdoors in: Look closely at nature’s late-autumn detail. Rich floral motifs, deep wood tones, and organic patterns.
