Creating a cosy reading nook à la Daisy Snow

Putting our screens away, and carving out a space in your house for reading, listening to records, journaling, or sketching, has never felt more necessary. We've been seeing this trending online and are completely on board.
The rise of the modern reading nook is all about creating a tactile sanctuary to unplug and slow down. Designed as intentional micro-retreats in apartments, shared flats, and studios, these cosy zones swap rigid layouts for effortless comfort, rich textures, and soulful styling that turns downtime into an everyday ritual.
We really think it is pretty easy to achieve a cosy little nook with some simple design concepts and with a few hero ingredients: a plush floor rug, comfortable seating, warm lighting, and a draped throw. We believe these can transform any dead, awkward corner into the cosiest spot in the house. Here is how to build your own analogue corner:
Step 1: Find the dead space
Every room has one, that awkward bit of empty floor between the wardrobe and the door, the foot of your bed, or an unloved corner of the living room.
Step 2: The rug
If you want a cosy snug zone, you have to start from the ground up. Toss down a plush, textured floor rug in your chosen corner. This instantly creates an optical boundary, signalling to your brain (and anyone visiting) that this is a distinct, designated zone separate from the rest of the room.
Step 3: Choose your comfortable seating
Since square footage is precious, your seating needs to work hard while staying inviting. Go for what suits your space best. Think oversized floor cushions, a plush beanbag, a stylish accent chair, or even a window ledge outfitted with plenty of soft textiles. Keep it versatile, casual, and tailored to how you love to lounge.
Step 4: Make is cosy; cushions on cushions
Since your setup is all about maximum relaxation, comfort is non-negotiable. Pile up an odd number of mismatched, vibrant cushions against the wall or your seating base. Mix up your shapes, combine a square block-print cushion with a supportive lumbar or a floor pouffe.
Step 5: Add intentional lighting
A proper sanctuary needs the right atmosphere to take you from bright daytime reading to moody evening unwinding. Position your nook near a window to catch natural daylight during the day, and layer in a warm, low-glare lamp or fairy lights for evening relaxation.
Step 6: Book storage
Make your reading material part of the decor rather than tucking it away out of sight. Instead of hiding books by their spines on a traditional shelf, display your current reads or favourites with the covers facing forward on a low ledge or in a basket. It sparks visual curiosity and makes your nook feel like a curated indie bookshop corner. If it's a listening booth you’re creating, do the same with your records.
Step 7: Add the finishing touch
Evenings are getting chillier, and a proper snug zone needs a blanket you can actually wrap yourself up in. Grab a textured throw or a quilt and drape it casually over your seating, the edge of the bed, or even stacked neatly next to your cushions. It invites you to instantly grab it, wrap up, and get lost in a book or music.
Step 8: Personalise the nook
Keep your current read, a notebook and pen, a cup of tea, or some candles within arm's reach. Because you have built it with gorgeous textiles like handmade cottons and rich weaves, your little corner will feel entirely custom-built, deeply intentional, and completely yours.
